            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Less than 100 hours from the State of the Union, your Hardball team has a big
Friday night show for you. Not only will the Hardball HotShots be here, but
we'll also have interviews with Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and President Jimmy
Carter!

But before we get to more about tonight, let's look at next week for just a
minute. On Monday night, Hardball will officially kick off MSNBC's Decision
2006 coverage of the congressional and gubernatorial races across the country.
You don't want to miss Chris' exclusive interview with Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) on
Monday. Plus, Hardball's David Shuster reports from Pennsylvania on the race
between Sen. Rick Sanrotum (R-PA) and State Treasurer Bob Casey, Jr. We'll also
have the new numbers from the poll by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal!
Find out more here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11061002/.

And to tie you over til next week, go vote in our poll about what the president
should talk about in Tuesday night's State of the Union:

Back to tonight, we'll start with the latest headlines from the Justice
Department in the Abramoff investigation. Chris will talk with MSNBC's Chief
Washington Correspondent Norah O'Donnell and attorney Dick Sauber, a former
Justice Department prosecutor, about today's New York Times report that the
Justice Department's chief prosecutor in the Abramoff investigation, Noel
Hillman, has been nominated by President Bush for a federal judgeship. Will
this hinder the investigation? Will there be a special prosecutor appointed to
oversee the investigation? Here's the Times' report:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/27/politics/27judge.html.

Sen. Allen will be here to react to the Alito filibuster call by Senate
Democrats -- led by the GOP's favorite Bay State duo! Here's a link to the
senator's initial reaction Thursday: http://allen.senate.gov/.

Chris will also talk with Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson about the
Justice Department questions, the Abramoff investigation, the Alito debate, and
much more. Here's Robinson's column in today's Post about fear politics:

In tonight's installment of the Hardball Hotshots, Joe Scarborough, Rita Cosby,
and Tucker Carlson will share with Chris their thoughts on this week's news,
including the unseen Bush-Abramoff photos, the Natalee Holloway investigation
in Alabama, the fallout of lying to Oprah Winfrey, and anti-war activist Cindy
Sheehan's visit with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The HotShots will also
give their takes on the winners and losers of the 2008 presidential prospects
in the news this week!

And don't miss an interview with President Jimmy Carter by NBC News' Martin
Fletcher in Jerusalem to hear his thoughts on Hamas' victory in the Palestinian
election. MSNBC has the latest news from there:
