            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Will it get better or worse? A daytime curfew remains in effect in Baghdad and
three neighboring provinces today as the Iraqi government seeks to quell
widespread violence between Sunnis and Shiites. Tonight on Hardball, Chris will
talk with NBC News Correspondent Mike Boettcher from Baghdad about the
desperate efforts to avert a civil war among Iraqis. Chris also will talk with
Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations and former
director of policy planning for the State Department under President Bush. Read
the AP's latest report: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11491483/.

For more on the U.S. politics stemming from the Middle East violence, the
Weekly Standard's Stephen Hayes and the New York Daily News' Tom DeFrank will
be here too. Hayes and DeFrank also will talk about the port deal fight. Here's
the latest on that from NBC News: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11540632/.

Also tonight, it's Friday and that means it's time for another edition of the
Hardball HotShots. Chris will welcome MSNBC's Rita Cosby, Tucker Carlson, and
Joe Scarborough to break down the big stories of the week and figure out who
gained grown among the 2008 presidential prospects.

And don't miss the news on today's developments in the CIA leak investigation!
Hardball's David Shuster will report from the courthouse in Washington, D.C.,
where Libby's lawyers filed motions today to get access to classified material
they say is essential for his defense. In case you hadn't heard, on Thursday
night, Libby's lawyers filed a motion to have the whole case thrown out,
claiming Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald doesn't have the authority to
bring charges against Libby. Attorney Dick Sauber, who represents Time's Matt
Cooper, also will be here to talk about the strategy that Libby's legal team is
using. Here's MSNBC's report on today's proceedings:
