The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Is the port spat spent or is this just a 45-day countdown to the real showdown?
Over the weekend, the White House, Congress, and Dubai Ports World apparently
found common ground, but what will a review do now? Will there be more barbs
for the White House from their own party? There will be a 45-day investigation,
at the request of Dubai Ports World, and it seems to have quelled a battle
between the president and Republican leaders of Congress (with enthusiastic
help from Democrats). But will a review be enough? Will the Republican majority
in Congress get behind the president? Here's the latest from the AP, including
action in London today, where the U.K.'s High Court has to approve the deal:

On Hardball tonight at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern, David Shuster will bring us
the latest on what happened over the weekend -- and where things are likely to
go from here. Plus, Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) will join Chris to tell him what he
and his Senate Commerce Committee colleagues plan to hear/ask/say at Tuesday's
full committee inquiry about the deal. Find out more about what's sure to be an
intense hearing here:
http://commerce.senate.gov/hearings/witnesslist.cfm?id=1776.
Also tonight, Democratic strategist Steve McMahon and former Rep. Susan
Molinari (R-NY) will be here to hash out the ongoing port politics.
Tom Kean, former Republican governor of New Jersey and former chairman of the
9/11 Commission, also will be here to talk about port security concerns.
For more port politics, Chris will talk to Michael Smerconish, radio talk show
host on WPHT in Philadelphia, and Jim Zogby, president of the Arab-American
Institute.
And don't miss Newsweek's Howard Fineman and Bloomberg News' Roger Simon as
they chew on this chapter of the national security debate and how that fight --
and developments in Iraq -- are affecting both this year's midterm elections
and the 2008 playing field.
