The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Less than 24 hours until things officially kick off at the Southern Republican
Leadership Conference in Memphis, Tenn., it's a major turn of events on Capitol
Hill as Dubai Ports World announces that it will sell its interests in U.S.
ports to an American entity. The announcement came just as the Senate was
battling over when and how to vote on a move to kill the deal altogether.
Meanwhile, the House was gearing up for a vote to kill the deal next week,
despite a veto threat from the president. Here's the latest from the AP:

There's more news on the Memphis front too: In addition to our live Hardball
shows from Memphis at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern on Friday night, we'll now also have
a live Hardball special report on Saturday night at 9 p.m. Eastern! Tune in to
hear which GOP presidential prospect won The Hotline's straw poll of the nearly
2,000 people from 26 states attending the conference. Here are more things to
get you ready for the SRLC in Memphis:

On Hardball tonight, Chris will sort out what the port development means with
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) who had both vowed to
kill the deal before today's announcement. Former RNC Chairman and Gov. Jim
Gilmore (R-VA), Newsweek's Richard Wolffe, and Bloomberg News' Margaret Carlson
will all be here to talk about what seems to be the final and determining blow
in this fight. But will the fighting between the White House and Congress
continue on other fronts?
And don't miss Chris' interview with David Margolick, who has a new fascinating
piece in Vanity Fair on Jack Abramoff. Read a preview of it here:

And if you haven't done it yet, check out a brand-new feature on Hardball's
website called Tipster/Pixster! On Tipster, you can -- literally -- let us know
when you see your politicians and politicos out and about, whether it's around
town in D.C., back home in the states, or somewhere you wouldn't expect them to
be at all. It's a forum for sharing color in a gray world of politics. Who'd
you see? What were they doing? What did they say? Pixster is Tipster's visual
cousin. See politicians or pundits somewhere? Snap a photo! Where were they?
Who were they with? Use your digital camera or your phone and send it to us and
we'll post it with your description of the scene and any other fun tidbits.
It's all here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11698847/.
