The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Memphis put the early race for
2008 into high-gear. Now, back on Capitol Hill, Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold
of Wisconsin, a potential 2008 Democratic candidate, introduced late this
afternoon a resolution to censure President Bush for the NSA's formerly secret
warrantless surveillance program. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN),
coming off of his victory in Saturday's presidential straw poll in Memphis,
called Feingold's measure a "political stunt," called the president's decision
"legal," and pushed for a vote on the matter either later tonight or tomorrow.
Tonight on Hardball, Chris will have comprehensive coverage of this past
weekend's GOP action and the breaking developments coming from the Senate.
Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will have the latest on Feingold's
resolution. Chris will talk with Chuck Todd, editor-in-chief of The Hotline,
and Tony Blankley, editor of the Washington Times editorial page, about that
and the winners and losers coming out of Memphis. They'll also talk about how
Decision 2006 (and 2008!) races are shaping up for both parties.
