The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
President Bush has been engaging the media -- and suggesting criticism for the
media -- this week in a series of public events that included a speech, a press
conference, and a town hall forum that largely focused on the initiation,
prosecution, and resolution of the Iraq War. While the president has not
directly bashed coverage of the war, he certainly has made comments that lead
to a discussion about it.
Tonight on Hardball, Chris will talk with Kent and Gayle Taylor of West
Virginia. Mrs. Taylor asked one of the questions in Wednesday's town hall
meeting, made a comment about the press' failure to report positive
developments in Iraq, and said that her husband has video of positive news that
the national media would never show. Chris will talk with them about that and
you will see some of the images that she described to the president.
Plus, Ben Ginsberg, a former legal counsel for the Bush-Cheney campaigns, and
Hardball Political Analyst Bob Shrum will be here to discuss the media
questions and criticism. Is the White House turning to a "blame the media"
strategy to rally support for the president and the U.S. presence in Iraq?
Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will explore that question in a report
tonight.
Also, Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, will be here to
talk about the Christian convert in Afghanistan who could be put to death for
his conversion. Does the situation put the president in an awkward position in
the ongoing rebuilding of Afghanistan and complicate the largely warm relations
between America and the new Afghan leadership?
You'll also see tonight a profile of Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN), who is
running for the Democratic nomination in a race to succeed retiring Sen. Bill
Frist (R-TN). Can Ford become the first African American ever popularly elected
to the U.S. Senate from the South?
Newsweek's Chief Political Correspondent Howard Fineman also will be here to
talk about the midterm election and the never ending developments in the 2008
presidential prospects field. Could the contest come down to a battle between
New Yorkers?
