The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Tonight Hardball at 5 and 7pm ET originates from New Orleans, and at 9pm ET,
Chris Matthews co-moderates a New Orleans mayoral debate live on MSNBC!
Tonight will mark the first opportunity for displaced residents to watch a live
debate nationwide, as Chris and WDSU's Norman Robinson question the candidates
at 9pm ET.
Also in the news today, the debate heats up over Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld, and whether he should stay or go. On Hardball tonight, we'll hear
three distinct viewpoints:
Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke will explain why
he feels Rumsfeld should leave his post. (Read his Sunday op/ed from the
Washington Post here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/14/AR2006041401451_pf.html.)
Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong, a deputy commander at Central Command will come to the
Secretary's defense and weigh in on the increasing number of critics coming
forward. (His op/ed is here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/16/opinion/16delong.html?pagewanted=print.)
And Nathaniel Fick, a former Marine Captain who served in Iraq and Afghanistan,
will share his viewpoint as a veteran of the War on Terror.
In New Orleans, we'll preview this evening's debate and examine the
government's response to Katrina. With less than six weeks out from hurricane
season, how prepared is New Orleans for a future storm? With perspective on
the New Orleans recovery and the response to Katrina, Chris will hear from
former FEMA Director Michael Brown.
For all the latest in the mayoral race, we'll turn to New Orleans
Times-Picayune Managing Editor Peter Kovacs. Congratulations to the paper,
which today received two Pulitzer prizes - one for breaking news coverage and
another for public service reporting. (For a full listing of winners, click

And for a preview of tonight's debate at 9pm ET, we'll hear from New Orleans'
WDSU anchors Norman Robinson and Kriss Fairbairn.
