            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Another bad batch of poll numbers were released today by the New York Times and
CBS News. The president's job approval shrunk a little more to just 31% and
two-thirds of the country has little or no confidence that the Iraq War will
end successfully. Read more about it here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/10/washington/10poll.html.

Can the president bounce back? Is there anything on the horizon in 2006 that
can help his presidency or the electoral chances of his fellow Republicans in
the midterm election? While the GOP on Capitol Hill unveiled their effort today
to appeal to the 'burbs in 2006, President Bush looked beyond that, telling
Florida reporters that his governing brother Jeb would make a "great
president." Read the AP's report here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12721154/.

Tonight on Hardball, Chris will talk about the highs and the lows with Sen.
Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Senate's minority whip, and Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), the
former Senate majority leader. Chris will get the latest from them on the fate
of President Bush's pick to run the CIA. (FYI: One senator supports him and one
has questions.)

Tyler Drumheller, the former CIA chief in Europe, will join Chris to share his
thoughts on the Hayden nomination and how it could play out in Langley.

Also tonight, Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN), the presumed Democrat nominee for
senate in Tennessee, will talk to Chris about gas prices and much more.

Plus, Bob Shrum, Hardball political analyst, and Ed Rogers, Republican
strategist and former adviser to the first President Bush, will be here to
discuss the fears and hopes of both parties in 2006.

And with New Orleans' mayoral election just 10 days away, Chris will talk with
historian Douglas Brinkley, author of the new book "The Great Deluge: Hurricane
Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast," about the city's current
state and future.
