            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Today is a huge day for Decision 2006. With just about five months until
Election Day, eight states held primaries today to add a little bit of
certainty to an uncertain election season. The hottest race of the day of
course isn't a primary at all, rather it's the special election race to replace
disgraced former Rep. Duke Cunningham (R-CA). All eyes in Washington are on San
Diego, where Republican Brian Bilbray and Democrat Francine Busby are battling
at the intersection of immigration and ethics debates to serve in Congress for
the rest of the year and likely face-off again in November to win a full term
starting in 2007. Today's North County Times in San Diego looks at the national
interest in the local race:

Tonight on Hardball, Chris will have all results (as they become available)
plus analysis from Tucker Carlson, host of MSNBC's "The Situation," Reverend Al
Sharpton, Washington Post.com reporter Chris Cillizza, author of "The Fix,"
Chuck Todd, editor-in-chief of "The Hotline," MSNBC Political Correspondent Ron
Reagan, and former Rep. Vin Weber (R-MN). They'll talk about what today's
results could mean for the winners, losers, and the parties' plans for Election
Day. Get updates on what's happening from Cillizza:

Plus, Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) will be here to talk about strategy -- both on the
campaign trail and on Capitol Hill. Could debates over gay marriage, flag
burning, taxes, and more help Republicans rally their base and hold on to
control of Congress? Lott's own Mississippi is one of the state holding a
primary today, along with Alabama, California, Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New
Mexico, and South Dakota. Learn more developments on Todd's "The Hotline On
Call": http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/.

Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will take a look tonight at what voters
are deciding today and NBC News Correspondent Jennifer London will report on
the battle to fill Cunningham's old seat in San Diego.

This is the biggest day of voting before November and Hardball is your place to
learn everything you need to know. Don't miss it!
