The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The White House is trashing three major newspapers today for reporting on a
secret program that tracks the bank activity of suspected terrorists. President
Bush called it "disgraceful." Vice President Cheney said, "What is doubly
disturbing for me is, not only have they gone forward with these stories but
they've been rewarded for it, for example in the case of the terrorists
surveillance program by being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for outstanding
journalism. I think that is a disgrace," according to the AP's report. Here's

Meanwhile, politicians of both parties are outraged over reports that the Iraqi
government may grant amnesty to insurgents in Iraq. The AP has more:

Tonight on Hardball, Chris is back and talks to Evan Thomas of Newsweek, David
Ignatius of the Washington Post, and Ron Suskind, author "The One Percent
Doctrine: Deep Inside America's Pursuit of Its Enemies Since 9/11," about the
fight with the media, the debate over the war, and how the government has been
fighting terrorism since 9/11.
Plus, Iraq War veterans Nathaniel Fick and Paul Rieckhoff will join Chris to
talk about the debate over amnesty for insurgents and how long U.S. troops
should be in Iraq. How would amnesty for insurgents affect our troops on the
ground there? And is a timetable for pulling out troops actually closer to
reality than Republicans gave Democrats credit for over the last couple of
weeks?
Reverend Al Sharpton and radio host Melanie Morgan also will join Chris to talk
about the debate over the war, insurgent amnesty, the media, and much more!
Don't miss Hardball Tuesday live from New York City with New York City Police
Commissioner Ray Kelly!
