            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

The U.S. military said Friday that five U.S. Army soldiers are under
investigation for allegedly killing a family of four in Iraq. Here's the latest
from MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13630952/. Tonight on Hardball, Chris
will talk with NBC News' Jim Miklaszewski for more on this story from the
Pentagon.

Also tonight, Chris kicks off the Fourth of July weekend with Reverend Al
Sharpton and radio talk show host Melanie Morgan of KSFO in San Francisco.
They'll talk about where things stand for the Republicans and the Democrats
with just 130 days until Election Day. After a week of fighting over national
security, in which the U.S. Supreme Court scolded the president and Republicans
scolded the press, is control of Congress coming down to a fight over who will
keep us safer? If that's the case, how much impact will debates over flag
burning, gay marriage, and stem cells have on voter turn-out this fall?

Incidentally, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) said Thursday that he
plans to have the Senate vote soon on the stem cell bill that the president
previously vowed to veto. Learn more here in today's Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/29/AR2006062902051.html.

Also tonight, Chris will talk with widows of the Iraq War who have had problems
with their survivor benefits and are fighting to make sure it doesn't happen to
others. MSNBC Military Analyst Col. Ken Allard (Ret.) also will join Chris to
talk about that situation.

And, yes, it's Friday and the Hardball HotShots are here! Tonight, Chris
welcomes Mike Barnicle, MSNBC contributor and Boston Globe columnist, Craig
Crawford, MSNBC political analyst and Congressional Quarterly columnist, and
Alexandra Stoddard, columnist for The Hill. They'll tackle the president's trip
to Graceland, the politics of Superman, and much, much more! Wondering what
we're talking about with Superman? Read today's Hollywood Reporter:
