The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
On this Friday, the president presses diplomacy with North Korea (from
Chicago), the FBI derails a terror plot (in New York City), and Democrats
ponder what Senator Joe Lieberman's situation means for them (everywhere).
Tonight on Hardball, MSNBC Chief Washington Correspondent Norah O'Donnell,
sitting in for Chris, talks with former Bush-Cheney campaign counsel Ben
Ginsberg and Hardball Political Analyst Bob Shrum about the what these
developments will mean for Decision 2006 and the president's efforts to rally
support for a peaceful resolution to the North Korea standoff. The AP recaps
the president's Windy City presser: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13752067/.
The president told reporters today, "The problem with diplomacy, it takes a
while to get something done. If you're acting alone, you can move quickly. When
you're rallying world opinion and trying to come up with the right language at
the United Nations to send a clear signal, it takes a while." (The White House
has a full transcript of his remarks:

Here's more on what happened (and what was thwarted) in New York City:

And the AP takes a look at how Iraq is affecting Democratic primaries in
addition to Lieberman: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13752192/.
Also tonight, Norah will talk with Robert Watada, the father of a U.S. Army
lieutenant who refused to deploy to Iraq because he says the war is illegal and
immoral. Now, Watada's son is facing charges that could put him in prison for
up to eight years if he's convicted. Iraq War veteran Paul Hackett also will
join Norah to explain why he thinks it's simple: if you sign up, then you
serve.
Plus, Friday means one thing for certain on Hardball: the HotShots! MSNBC's
Rita Cosby, Joe Scarborough, and Tucker Carlson will all be here to analyze the
week that was.

Democrat Ned Lamont, then check out Hardblogger for all the highlights and

Have a great weekend and don't miss Hardball on Monday -- Chris will be back
and our guests will include a U.S. Army lieutenant who was accused and
acquitted of premeditated murder in the shooting of two Iraqi civilians.
