The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Are we safer than we were before 9/11? Chris will ask that question to
Secretary Michael Chertoff tonight live from the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security headquarters for a special report at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern. British
authorities announced today they had foiled a terrorist plot to blow up nine
airplanes simultaneously while they flew from London to the United States.
MSNBC.com has more: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/.
Here's President Bush's statement on the planned attack today:

Rep. Peter King (R-NY), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will
be here to talk about the latest developments.
Plus, 2004 vice presidential nominee and former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) will
be here talk about national security and how it will play into politics for
2006 and beyond.
U.S. airports are in a state of crowded chaos as passengers are forced to get
rid of all liquid-based items -- from drinks to hair gel to toothpaste --
before boarding airplanes. Baby formula is the lone exception. The governors of
Massachusetts and California have ordered the National Guard to help bolster
airport security. The Associated Press has more on that:

Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) will join Chris to talk about what the National Guard
will do at Boston's airport and other measures his state is taking.
Chris also will talk with former 9/11 Commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste, NBC
Counter-terrorism Analyst Roger Cressey, Newsweek Chief Investigative
Correspondent Michael Isikoff, and former CIA operative Bob Baer about the
latest developments and what they mean for the state of our national security.
