            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

More details emerged today in the foiled terrorist plot to blow up passenger
jets headed to the U.S. over the Atlantic Ocean. The names of some of the men
arrested were released. A Bush Administration official tells NBC News that the
plot's mastermind was taken into custody earlier in the week. And sources say
that the plot was set to take place in just days. MSNBC.com has more on the
arrested men and the traveling troubles today:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14297890/ and http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14282396/.

Tonight on Hardball, Chris talks with Fran Townsend, homeland security adviser
to President Bush, about the latest news in the busted plot. Rep. Charles
Rangel (D-NY) and Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA) will join Chris to talk about the
political fight over national security. With under 90 days to go until Election
Day, will a debate over terrorism determine who controls Congress? AP has more
on the bitter back-and-forth: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14305975/.

Roger Simon of Bloomberg News, Anne Kornblut of the New York Times, and Terry
Jeffrey of Human Events also will be here to report on how the terrorist plot
news is shaping the playing field for Decision 2006. The New York Times reports
on how Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) came out swinging in the wake of the news:

Plus, Hardballer radio hosts Amy Goodman and Heidi Harris will debate the
politics playing out on Capitol Hill and over the airwaves!
