            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Tonight, it's must-see edition of Hardball as Academy Award winning actor
George Clooney and his father Nick Clooney talk with Chris about their meetings
at the United Nations about the situation in Darfur. Here's more from the AP:
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/09/14/america/NA_GEN_US_Darfur_Wiesel_Clooney.php.

With just 54 days left until Election Day, the security message battle keeps
intensifying. President Bush dropped by Capitol Hill this morning for a
closed-door meeting with Republican Members of Congress. When the doors opened,
the president told reporters that "I reminded them that the most important job
of government is to protect the homeland." AP has more:

Tonight on Hardball, Hardball's David Shuster and NBC News Congressional
Producer Mike Viqueira will report on all the latest in the war of words.
Matthew Dowd, chief strategist for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign, and Douglas
Sosnik, a former adviser to President Clinton, will break down how the parties
are working every angle to win control of Congress. They'll also talk about
their new book "Applebee's America." Chris Cillizza, author of "The Fix" on
WashingtonPost.com, and MSNBC Chief Washington Correspondent Norah O'Donnell
will survey the security fight and how it's playing out in the field for
Decision 2006.

Also tonight, Rep. Ben Cardin (D-MD), who won Maryland's U.S. Senate primary on
Tuesday, will talk with Chris about his race against Lt. Gov. Michael Steele
(R-MD). Can Cardin hold on to a seat the Democrats need to keep in their fight
for control? And Minnesota congressional candidate Keith Ellison (D) will talk
with Chris about his fight to succeed retiring Rep. Martin Sabo (D-MN). If
Ellison wins, he'd be the first Muslim ever to serve in Congress and the first
African American to serve in Congress from Minnesota. Plus, CC Goldwater, Barry
Goldwater's granddaughter and the producer of "Mr. Conservative: Goldwater On
Goldwater," will talk about her grandfather's legacy for America's conservative
movement.
