            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Now that the battle for Congress is over, the fight for leadership is on. This
Thursday House Dems vote for Majority Leader, and on Friday, Republicans vote
for Minority Leader. Watch Hardball tonight and go to www.politics.msnbc.com
for the latest. Tonight, Hardball Correspondent David Shuster will kick off
our week with a report on the Democratic press for power, centered on divisions
over Iraq. We'll be joined by Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), a Murtha supporter,
and Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-CA), in the Hoyer camp, to talk about who they're
backing and why.

In an October Washington Post OpEd, Dick Armey wrote "the Democrats are reaping
the rewards of our neglect -- and we have no one to blame but ourselves"
We'll hear from the former House Majority Leader on how the GOP lost Decision
2006, what Republicans need to do to win back the base and the internal fight
to become Minority Leader.

Then, Pelosi vs. Harman, Murtha vs. Hoyer and the battle among Pence, Boehner
and Barton. We'll bring in the Hardballers to hash out the battles on the
Hill and look ahead to '08. Republican strategist Ed Rogers, Democratic
strategist Steve McMahon and MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle will join Chris to
talk about who will become the new leaders of Congress and who to watch in '08.
Check out Ed Rogers' Washington Post OpEd, "The Election is Over. Let the
Election begin."

Plus, President Bush met today with the Iraq Study Group. The panel is due to
release their recommendations next month for the next steps the U.S. will take
in Iraq (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15696963/). To talk about how the Iraq
Study Group report will affect the Iraq war and how the White House used
intelligence in the run-up to Iraq we'll bring in Tyler Drumheller, former head
of CIA Clandestine Ops in Europe and author of "On the Brink: An Insider's
Account of How the White House Compromised American Intelligence."

Don't miss Hardball's Chris Matthews at 3 PM ET every day on MSNBC.
