            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Happy Friday from Hardball.

Tonight on Hardball, we'll talk Iraq with Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI), a veteran and
member of the Armed Services Committee. Should the U.S. send more troops, as
the Army's lead general called for yesterday? Sen. Reed will weigh in. We'll
also ask him for an update on his colleague Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD), who
remains in the hospital recovering from surgery to repair a brain hemorrhage.

Our Hardballers tonight, National Review's Kate O'Beirne and NYU's Bob Shrum,
will analyze the politics of Iraq and the President's forthcoming plan, as well
as the political implications should Sen. Johnson not be able to return to
office.

Today concluded Donald Rumsfeld's tenure as Defense Secretary. At a farewell
ceremony at the Pentagon, President Bush said Rumsfeld "knows how to lead."
We'll discuss his leadership with the Washington Post's Military Correspondent
Thomas Ricks, who authored "Fiasco: The Military Adventure in Iraq." To read
more on today's ceremony, click here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16223538/.

And lastly, we'll preview '08 with two veteran campaign strategists, Republican
Mike Murphy and Democrat Steve McMahon. Murphy recently wrote an LA Times
op/ed on Bush and Iraq. To read it, click here:
