The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
President Bush today said that the U.S. should expand its Army and Marine Corps
in the long term, and possibly increase short-term troop levels in Iraq
(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11442716/). Will this be the President's solution
to the civil war there? We'll begin with a report tonight on the White House
press conference from Hardball Correspondent David Shuster followed with
analysis by Richard Haass, President of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Go to www.politics.msnbc.com for the latest on these stories and all of today's
political news.
For more on Bush and Iraq, we'll talk to Hardballers from both sides of the
aisle: Democratic strategist Joe Trippi and Republican strategist Ron Christie.
And, on his third day as Defense Secretary, Bob Gates made an unannounced trip
to Iraq to meet with top U.S. military commanders
(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16293044/). The new Secretary of Defense has been
tasked to help President Bush with a new Iraq strategy, including a plan to
increase Army and Marine Corps numbers. We'll get a report from NBC's Jim
Miklaszewski at the Defense Department. And later in the show we'll be joined
by NBC Political Analyst and Newsweek Senior Editor Jonathan Alter
(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16127615/site/newsweek/), Washington Post.com's
Chris Cillizza and Hotline Editor-in-Chief Chuck Todd to talk Bush, Iraq and
where '08 stands right now.
