As the race for '08 heats up this week, President Bush concentrates on his new
plan for Iraq. He says it will work. On Tuesday night, will the rest of the
country agree?
Tonight on Hardball, we'll hash out a week of hot politics and gear up for
what's next. First up, Rev. Al Sharpton and John Fund of opinionjournal.com
join Chris to talk '08: who's in, who's out and who's got the best shot. Then,
former presidential candidate Sharpton tells us what it's like to run for the
oval office. Does Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) have what it takes, or will too
little experience bring him down? And later in the show, former Counsel to the
Bush/Cheney '04 campaign Ben Ginsberg - now with the campaign of former Gov.
Mitt Romney (R-MA) - and Democratic strategist Steve McMahon will be here for
more on presidential politics and Iraq.
While Bush spent this Friday rehearsing his State of the Union, Democratic
leaders Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NE) delivered their
own address in Washington, saying that more troops in Iraq "will not reverse
these negative effects, it will only add to them," and called the president's
plan "more of the same." And, with 13 hours to spare, Democrats passed the
last of six bills promised to voters for their first 100 hours on the job. The
question now: how many new bills will survive the president's veto power?
Hardballers Jonathan Alter of Newsweek and washingtonpost.com's Chris Cillizza
will dig in on Bush vs. Congress.
Then, as the Senate tries to stop the President's plan for a troop surge in
Iraq, the House is pushing for a resolution to block an attack on Iran. Rep.
Jim Moran (D-VA) is co-sponsor of the resolution and he'll be here to tell us
about it.
Plus, the first week of the Scooter Libby trial wraps up. We'll get the latest
from Hardball Correspondent David Shuster. Check out Shuster's posts on
