------------------------------------------------------
The Dow Jones industrial average plummeted over 500 points today, before
closing 400 points down (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3683270/). Tonight on
Hardball, we'll get the latest on what this means from CNBC's Jim Cramer and
Bill Griffeth.

And earlier in the day, a suicide bomber attacked the U.S. military base in
Afghanistan where Vice President Dick Cheney was staying during his visit,
killing more than a dozen people. A Taliban spokesman said the attack targeted
the Vice President, who was not hurt, but the U.S. military denies this claim.

Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department is planning a "diplomatic offensive" to
stabilize Iraq. Former U.N. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke will be here to talk
about all the news from the Middle East and we'll hear from the New Yorker's
Seymour Hersh. In his latest piece, Hersh asks if the Bush Administration's
new policy in public diplomacy and covert operations is benefiting U.S. enemies
in the war on terrorism
(http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/070305fa_fact_hersh).

Then, the latest on the House debate on Iraq with Reps. Debbie
Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) and Chris Shays (R-CT).

Plus, will former Vice President Al Gore try to turn Oscar gold into a White
House bid? To hash out all the news in 2008 politics we'll bring in Rick Davis
from the McCain Exploratory Committee and Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen.

And we'll talk about the legacy of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
with Andrew Cockburn, author of the new book "Rumsfeld: His rise, fall, and
catastrophic legacy."
