The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Today on Capitol Hill, the Senate Judiciary Committee cleared the way for
subpoenas for five Justice Department officials and six of the Federal
prosecutors they fired, but delayed a vote on authorizing subpoenas for
President Bush's top aides until next week. Before they speak out in front of
the Senate, two of the fired attorneys, John McKay and Bud Cummins, will join
us tonight on Hardball.
We'll have complete coverage of this latest Washington scandal with our special
guest host, NBC's Chief White House Correspondent David Gregory, plus reports
from NBC's Pete Williams and Mike Viqueira. Should Gonzales be fired? Will
Congress accept anything less? Can the president get his administration back
on track? Our Hardballers: Washington Times Editorial Page Editor Tony
Blankley and Eugene Robinson from the Washington Post will tackle the debate,
and the latest news on Iraq - in a new report, the Pentagon admits the
situation there is civil war.
Then, NBC's Chip Reed takes us aboard the Straight Talk Express for a chat with
2008 presidential candidate John McCain. We'll slice and dice through all the
latest in the race for the White House with Time's Jay Carney and John Harris
from Politico.com.
