The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Today in Washington, a growing political fire...and lots of firemen. Join us
tonight for Hardball, live at 5 and 7 PM EST, with guest host Mike Barnicle.
As calls for his resignation continue, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
remains embroiled in scandal after the dismissal of eight U.S. attorneys. In
Mexico today, President Bush stood by Gonzales and said that while "mistakes
were made" the firings were "entirely appropriate." We'll hear from one of the
angry voices tonight, Sen. John Ensign (R-NV), who called the firing of an
attorney in Las Vegas, "completely mishandled by the United States attorney
general."
Back in Washington, the '08 candidates gathered today to speak at a
presidential forum sponsored by the International Association of Fire Fighters,
the nation's largest fire fighters union. We'll get the scoop from Hardball's
David Shuster. And later, the head of the fire fighters union -- Harold
Schaitberger, and Kate O'Beirne from the National Review, will be here to tell
us more about today's events and what the union support will mean in '08.
We'll also hear from one Democratic candidate who was there today: Sen. Chris
Dodd (D-CT).
And don't miss this - a report that injured soldiers are being sent back to
fight in Iraq before they're fully healed. Mark Benjamin from Salon.com wrote
the story about injured Ft. Benning soldiers. He'll be here tonight with
Master Sgt. Ronald Jenkins to tell us what's going on. Read the full report
from Benjamin here:
