            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
When you begin your day at the Four Seasons with one of Washington's most
powerful women, the new Prez of the National Journal Group
(www.politics.msnbc.com) Suzanne Clark, (Other tables: Madeleine Albright with
Thomas Friedman, Ken "Duberdog" Duberstein and APCO's Craig Fuller), you know
the day will be a news rocker. And it did not disappoint.

Go anywhere on www.politics.msnbc.com and pick any story because there are new
twists and turns in each of them. Gonzalez, immigration, Comey, Schumer,
Libby, Iraq...the list goes on.

At HB HQ we are still suffering from a post-Tucker Carlson b-day sugar
hangover. By the way, tomorrow on the TODAY show: The Last Temptation of AL
Gore: Will He Run? Here's the ever svelter Al Gore on the cover of TIME
magazine: http://www.time.com/time.

Back at MSNBC HQ, David Gregory wowed them again with his special morning show
and his cable-exclusive interview with presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama
(D-IL). Go to www.hardblogger.msnbc.com for the transcript. Tomorrow David's
guests include GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and White House Press
Secretary Tony Snow.

Also, the State Department's Dina Powell is profiled in THE POWER ISSUE of
Washington Life. Go to www.washingtonlife.com. Let's hope she doesn't dump us
when she gets to Goldman Sachs. Of course, Betsy Fischer, Meet the Press
powerhouse, is featured (who recounts the worst on-air moment.and we all
remember THAT. I think the new newseum is going to have the reenactment, it
would be a great lesson to future generations), along with WL's Janet Donovan,
and some nice producers from the competition.

Tonight on Hardball, Democrats on Capitol Hill are working toward a vote of
no-confidence on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales after reports of the 2004
Ashcroft hospital confrontation. Earlier today, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told
reporters, "It seems the only person who has confidence in the attorney general
is President Bush. The president long ago should have asked the attorney
general to step down." Schumer is leading the charge against Gonzales with
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and he'll be here tonight.

Meanwhile, senators from both parties and the White House came to agreement on
an immigration reform bill that will strengthen U.S. borders and grant lawful
status to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. We'll ask Homeland
Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez - a
Cuban immigrant - what this really means for immigration in the U.S.

Later in the show, more on the immigration debate and the battle over Iraq with
GOP presidential contender Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Rep. Joe Sestak
(D-PA). And for the inside scoop on what was happening behind closed doors
today on the Hill, we'll bring in Jill Zuckman from the Chicago Tribune and the
Washington Post's Perry Bacon.

And it's not Hardball without the Hardballers. Tonight, radio talk show host
Ron Reagan and Kate O'Beirne from the National Review join Chris to talk about
Gonzales, immigration, the latest in '08 and all the hot political news of the
day.
