The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Dear Hardballers,
We have breathlessly updated our calendars here at Hardball HQ with today's
news that the Florida primary is jumping ahead to January 29...so now it's only
the Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada caucuses before the Sunshine state contest,
scheduled for the same day as the South Carolina Democratic primary...for all
those who thought our debates were too early...now what do you think?
Double congratulations to our dear friend and colleague Norah O'Donnell, the
proud mother of twins Grace and Henry, who were born Saturday!
On the TODAY show tomorrow...don't miss a special report on whether the GOP
lost its commitment to social conservativism. Are they burying the grip of the
Christian right?
MUST SEE MSNBC: Jim Cramer in the morning...no caffeine necessary!
Tonight on Hardball, we've got a show packed with smokin' hot politics that'll
quash even the worst case of the Mondays (although we can't promise watching
will help you find your stapler.)
Chris Cillizza, the man behind washingtonpost.com's "The Fix"
(<http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/>), Newsweek's Jonathan Darman and Lois
Romano from the Washington Post - will take on all the big stories, including
Gonzales, immigration and the heavyweight match-up of President Carter vs.
President Bush, which had Carter throwing all the punches until this weekend
when Team Bush snuck in a stinging jab, referring to the former president as
"increasingly irrelevant."
Meanwhile, former Vice President Al Gore says he's out of love with politics,
but rumors are swirling that his new book, "The Assault on Reason," may help
rekindle the romance - and the possibility of a presidential bid. The Hotshots
will chew on that tidbit and all the latest campaign news. By the way, watch
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann's interview with Gore on May 29th.
Speaking of '08, New Mexico's Gov. Bill Richardson (D) traveled a long road
from childhood in Mexico to serving in the halls of Congress and as an
international trouble shooter. This afternoon in Los Angeles, Richardson made
his presidential bid official and he will be with us tonight.
And from grassroots to netroots to winning over the firemen. We'll talk to
Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire
Fighters (when will the firefighters endorse?) and Ken Blackwell, former Ohio
secretary of state and Family Research Council senior fellow, about the
increasingly powerful role of special interest groups in the race for '08.
