            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Dear Hardballers,

While we always miss Congress when they are out of session, it's nice to spend
some time with advisers like Philippe Reines, Hillary Clinton's Senate office
spokesman, who helped send off former White House Political Director Sara
Taylor (to Europe), along with A. Michael Allen, TIME's Daniel Kile, and The
Politico's Mike "Scoop" Allen. Your Hardball booking team of Colleen King and
Querry Robinson as well as (Nicolle Wallace's best pal) Amy Violette and yours
truly gave Sara a proper bon voyage at the Ritz Carlton on M Street (where
else?). While Washington is losing another GOP political adviser, your HB
correspondents were pleased to see Ed Rollins in town at The Palm. Of course
everyone in town is talking about Hardball's own political analyst Bob Shrum,
who is launching his world tour for his book "No Excuses: Concessions of a
Serial Campaigner" on NBC's "Meet the Press" this weekend... and has his first
cable interview about the book on Monday night's Hardball.

Dan Bartlett, one of President Bush's closest advisers, announced today that he
is resigning his White House post after over 13 years with Bush. Tonight on
Hardball, we'll talk to the President's counselor about why he's leaving and
what the future holds for the Bush White House.

Now that Bartlett's leaving, what's next for Karl Rove, one of the few
remaining members of the original Bush inner circle? Plus, this morning on the
Today show, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Carl Bernstein described Sen.
Hillary Clinton (D-NY) as "inauthentic." Will Bernstein's unflattering new
biography chip away at the Clinton campaign? And the NIE and 2008: who read
what and when? NBC's David Gregory, Vanity Fair's Michael Wolff and Wayne
Slater from the Dallas Morning News will sort through it all and help you bone
up for some smokin' political debates around the grill this weekend. And later
in the show, more on all of today's hot topics with CQ's Jonathan Allen and
Jonathan Capehart from the Washington Post.

Then, it's the economy, stupid! How much stock will the economy hold in the
race for '08? We'll talk about the dollars and cents with Jim Cramer, host of
CNBC's Mad Money and author of Mad Money: Watch TV, Get Rich.

Plus, are Dick, Jane and Sally Democrats? According to book publisher Eric
Jackson, most children's books are pushing liberal values on kids. Jackson's
fighting back with books like "Help, Mom, There's a Liberal Under My Bed" and
"The Sky's Not Falling"...a new book for kids about global warming. Author and
activist Frances Moore Lappe says no way. We'll hear the debate over
pint-sized values tonight.
