The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Scooter Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, was
sentenced today in Washington to 30 months in prison for crimes he committed in
the CIA leak case. The White House said President Bush feels "terrible" for
Libby's family, but has no plans to intervene now. Will he change his mind
before January 20, 2009? We'll get the latest from NBC's Kevin Corke,
reporting live from the federal courthouse where Libby was sentenced earlier
today.
Then, has this case forever altered the relationship between journalists and
their sources? How hard will the blow sting the Bush administration and
Libby's boss, Vice President Cheney? We'll talk with attorney Bob Bennett, who
represented New York Times reporter Judy Miller, Newsweek's Michael Isikoff and
Matt Copper from Portfolio. Earlier this afternoon, Isikoff took part in a
live talk on the Libby sentencing. Check out the web exclusive here:

Then, talk about dirty politics: Larry Flynt from Hustler magazine is offering
up one million dollars in cold cash to anyone who can prove they had illicit
sexual encounters with politicians. Flynt offered his last reward in 1998 and
busted Speaker-elect Bob Livingstone (R-LA). Is Flynt doing a public service
by weeding out unsavory politicians? Or should the skeletons be left to gather
dust in the closet? Former NY GOP senate candidate K.T. McFarland and Flynt
duke it out in tonight's Hardball Debate.
Plus, the latest on Clinton, Rudy, Obama, the race for '08 and more on Libby's
2 1/2 year sentence with the Hardballers: former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy
Townsend (D-MD), DeRoy Murdock from the National Review, and HumanEvents.com
editor Terry Jeffery.
