            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Sex, lies and Vide08 - who said D.C. is quiet in the summer?

First, the madam(s) and the senator - the Times-Picayune of New Orleans is
reporting that phone records show Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the so-called "DC
Madam," made five phone calls to Sen. David Vitter's (R-LA) office when he was
a member of the House. We'll hear from Palfrey's attorney Montgomery Blair
Sibley tonight on Hardball. Meanwhile, the woman being dubbed the "Canal
Street Madam" alleges that Vitter was a client of hers in the 90's. We'll get
the latest on the scandal from Hardball's David Shuster.

Then, '08 contenders Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and former Sen. John Edwards
(D-NC) are an unlikely pair to be sharing secrets, but the two were caught on
tape Thursday at a presidential forum discussing their desire exclude
lower-ranked candidates from future presidential debates. Democratic contender
Rep. Dennis Kucinich says he's outraged over the Clinton-Edwards exchange and
he'll be here tonight to play some Hardball of his own. Later in the show,
we'll have more on this and all the day's political hot topics with the
Hardball Panel: National Review's Kate O'Beirne, also a Hardball political
analyst, Time's Michael Duffy, and Joseph Califano, former Carter
administration Health secretary.

By the way, Kate O'Beirne was part a group of journalists who met with the
President earlier today at White House. We'll get the scoop from her on what
Mr. Bush had to say this afternoon.

And in other '08 news, New Hampshire was the site of two campaign tours today.
Hillary Clinton and her husband Bill, as well as Sen. John McCain, both touched
down in the Granite State. NBC's Andrea Mitchell has been following the
campaigns on the ground and she'll join us live from New Hampshire. We'll also
get hear from the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson for the latest on Decision
2008.

Then, Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) and Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) go head-to-head for
tonight's Hardball Debate. Who's winning the escalating war between Congress
and the White House?
