The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
The Straw Vote is over and Rove's hit the road...what's next on the way to
Decision '08? Plus, the president and his faith - what role does divine
guidance play in the White House? And a question sure to get some people riled
up: should young Americans be drafted to fight in Iraq? All that and more,
tonight on Hardball.
First, who's up - and who's down - in the polls? What's going on out on the
campaign trail, and who's going on the attack? Newsweek's Howard Fineman and
NBC Political Director Chuck Todd sit down with Chris to talk some real
politics.
Then, is God driving President Bush? Michael Duffy, author of "The Preacher
and the Presidents" will join us to talk about the role of Bush's religion in
decisions made in Iraq. Plus, evangelicals made a their presence known in
2004. Will they flex their political muscles again in 2008? We'll get Duffy's
take.
Chris will have the latest on all the day's top political stories and we'll
have more later in the show with tonight's Hardball Panel: Ryan Lizza from the
New Yorker, Charlie Hurt from the New York Post, and April Ryan from American
Urban Radio Networks.
Violence raged today in Iraq, with the Iraqi army reporting at least 175 people
killed and 200 wounded in four suicide bombings, and five more Coalition Force
service members killed in a helicopter crash. With the long range forecast
showing a U.S. presence in Iraq for some time, should we reinstate the draft?
Iraq veteran Mark Finelli says yes. He'll be here to slug it out with John
Bruhns from Americans Against Escalation in Iraq.
