            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

Leaders of the evangelical community have threatened to back a third party
candidate if the GOP presidential nominee does not appeal to them. The top tier
of the Republican field is addressing these issues at the Values Voters Summit
in Washington. Can they convince this crucial voting block of their
conservative credentials? Hardball's David Shuster will have a report with the
latest reaction and then we'll hear from the Family Research Council's Tony
Perkins and Wall Street Journal Editorial Board member Stephen Moore on what
lies ahead.

Next, one of Giuliani's biggest selling points is his promise to shake up the
electoral map during a general election by rallying voters in blue states. Gov.
Ed Rendell (D-PA) has watched Pennsylvania turn into a battlefield for
presidential candidates -- tonight he'll tell you what steps his party is
taking to ensure that Democratic strongholds stand firm in 2008.

Republicans have demanded an apology from Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) for declaring
yesterday on the House floor that Pres. Bush has watched American soldiers die
in Iraq for his own "amusement." But are comments like this worse than the
tough-talk that Pres. Bush has employed to justify the war? That's our Hardball
Debate tonight with radio talk show hosts Kevin Miller and Stephanie Miller.

Plus, why did Senate Republicans kill Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)'s
"hippiefest" commemoration bill? And why might '08 Democratic candidate John
Edwards have lost the support of voters in South Carolina, a state he carried
in the 2004 primary?

We'll look at these stories and the week in politics with NBC's Political
Director Chuck Todd, New York Magazine's Jennifer Senior and the Washington
Post's Howard Kurtz, author of "The Reality Show."
