The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
Fmr. White House Press Sec. Scott McClellan has some fighting words for the
Bush administration in his new book.
In an excerpt released today, McClellan accuses Pres. Bush, Vice Pres. Cheney
and other White House officials of being "involved" in allowing him to
unknowingly spread false information to the press during the CIA leak
investigation. We'll talk to the Des Moines Register's David Yepsen and the
Washington Post's Dan Balz for more on this story and how it will affect the
'08 race.
Next, Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) has emerged as a top-tier candidate due in part
to his conservative stands on social issues. Tonight, he'll tell you why his
platform will win him the Republican nomination.
A new poll of Iowa voters shows the race for the Democratic nomination to be a
statistical dead-heat just 44 days ahead of the state's first-in-the-nation
primary. Is Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) on track for an upset win? Hardball's
David Shuster will report on the latest polling and then we'll hear from
presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin on what the leading indicators have
to say about the '08 race.
Plus, what would Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) say to campaign help from GOP
strategist Karl Rove? And what does NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) have to say
about Obama's youthful indiscretions?
We'll have more on these stories and the look ahead to the primaries during our
roundtable discussion with the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart, the Houston
Chronicle's Julie Mason and NBC Chief White House correspondent David Gregory.
