            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

First up - deal or no deal?

Today Democratic and Republican leaders emerged from a two-hour meeting saying
they had reached an agreement in principle on the $700 billion bailout package.
However - House Republican leader John Boehner signaled this afternoon that the
package isn't a done deal just yet. Tonight, we'll talk to Sen. Bunning (R-KY),
who yesterday called the package "financial socialism", and House Banking
committee member Barney Frank (D-MA) about the deal's status and what it will
mean for taxpayers.

At 4pm John McCain and Barack Obama took part in a White House meeting with
Pres. Bush and Congressional leaders. What was discussed? What did they decide?
We'll let you know as soon as the meeting comes to a close.

Is McCain bailing on the debate? The senator declared yesterday that he
wouldn't debate tomorrow in Mississippi unless there was a bailout deal. Is
this move about putting the economic crisis first or is it about politics?
We'll ask our Hardball Strategists, Democrat Steve McMahon and Republican Todd
Harris, to tackle that one.

Next - the Sarah Palin factor. The new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds
voters are losing confidence in her. The McCain camp is keeping her under
wraps. We'll bring you all of that along with reaction from former Clinton
Press Sec. Dee Dee Myers and MSNBC Political Analyst Pat Buchanan.

And here's a tip for you - don't diss Dave. McCain canceled his appearance on
David Letterman last night saying he had to be in Washington to deal with the
country's financial crisis. To put it lightly, Letterman was NOT pleased.
Hardball's David Shuster will bring you the reaction. Trust me, you won't want
to miss this one!

And on the Hardball Sideshow, why how the candidates *look* tomorrow night may
be just as important as what they say.

Plus, we'll break down all of today's news and tell you what it means in the
Politics Fix. It's only on Hardball, only on MSNBC.

Be sure to watch "Hardball with Chris Matthews" every night at 5 and 7 Eastern.
