Leading off: A new day and another new plan!

This morning Pres. Bush announced a new plan to unfreeze the credit markets by
making $250 billion available to banks. Just hours later, John McCain announced
his own economic plan in which he would eliminate taxes on unemployment
benefits and cut capital gains taxes in half.

McCain's speech comes one day after Barack Obama unveiled his own plan to fix
the economy. Tonight Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA)
will take a look at McCain and Obama's competing plans and how they might - or
might not - affect the election, which is now just three weeks from today.

Also, the cost of candor! Just look at what happened to Christopher Buckley,
son of William F. Buckley and columnist for the magazine his father founded,
"The National Review." Buckley wrote a column for the new Web site "The Daily
Beast" saying that despite his Republican pedigree, he was going to vote for
Obama. The result? Just look at the title of his column today: "Sorry, Dad, I
was sacked." Christopher Buckley joins us tonight.

Plus, with all the attention focused on the presidential race, there's
something else happening under the radar: Democrats are set to make huge gains
in the Senate. Could they win the nine seats they need for a filibuster-proof
majority of 60? Hardball's David Shuster will dig into the 2008 Senate races -
you won't want to miss it! We'll also bring in the WashingtonPost.com's Chris
Cillizza and the Rothenberg Political Report's Stuart Rothenberg to give you
their predictions.

And one of McCain and Palin's "rowdiest" supporters - Hank Williams Jr. -
writes a song for the Republican ticket. We'll hear part of that in The
Hardball Sideshow.

Also, tomorrow's debate may be the last chance John McCain has to change the
dynamic of this campaign. Can he do it ... and how does he do it? We'll look at
that in the Politics Fix with CNBC's John Harwood and The New Yorker's Ryan
Lizza.
