            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

First up: You don't have to wait for the Hardball Sideshow to see a Big Number!

We learned today that the Republican National Committee has spent more than
$150,000 on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin, including $49,000 at Saks
in New York and St. Louis, and $75,000 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis.

Why did the RNC feel the self-styled "Hockey Mom" from Alaska needed a
makeover? Who made this decision? We'll try to get to the bottom of this when
we talk to Obama campaign Spokesman, Bill Burton and McCain campaign Sr. Policy
Adviser, Nancy Pfotenhauer.

Today's wardrobe expense is only the latest bit of bad press to hit Sarah Palin
in the last 24 hours. Yesterday she described the role of the Vice-President as
"running the Senate." NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams sat down with Gov.
Palin today in Ohio. We'll talk to Brian and show you some of this interview.

And, you've seen Chris dance on "Ellen." But, Barack Obama gave him a run for
his money today on the show. We'll have that and the Obama World Series
two-step, on the Hardball Sideshow.

As always, we'll go behind the headlines with MSNBC's Michelle Bernard and
Salon's Joan Walsh in tonight's Politics Fix.
