            The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------

First up: Great Expectations!

It turns out Americans have high hopes for President-Elect Barack Obama. In a
recent USA Today poll, eight in 10 people say Obama will improve conditions for
minorities and the poor and roughly two-thirds of Americans say they believe
the country will be better off in four years. Can reality match the hope?
Tonight one of Obama's top economic advisors, Former Labor Secretary Robert
Reich will let us know what to expect.

Next - is Sarah Palin the future of the Republican Party? NBC's Kelly O'Donnell
and Washington Post's Lois Romano will tell us what they've been hearing. We'll
also bring you highlights from the Today Show's interview with Gov. Palin this
morning.

Then in the Hardball Sideshow, don't miss a look at late night comedians having
fun with yesterday's meeting between the incoming and outgoing presidents.

Some say the election rendered Republicans little more than a regional party -
one divided between conservatives and reformers. How does the party get back on
track? Who will emerge as the new leader? Former Cheney aide Ron Christie and
MSNBC Political analyst Michael Smerconish will discuss.

Plus, the Democrats still have high hopes for 60 seats in the Senate. We'll
update you on three Senate races have yet to be decided in the Politics Fix.
