The Hardball Briefing On MSNBC
------------------------------------------------------
First Up: Jobs Jobs Jobs!
240,000 jobs were lost last month as the nation's unemployment rate jumped four
tenths of a point to 6.5 percent. Today Obama held his first financial crisis
news conference in Chicago with his economic advisory board. We'll talk to one
of the members of his economic advisory board, former Commerce Secretary
William Daley, about what came out of that meeting.
Barack Obama won the Presidency Tuesday night by about six percentage points
and has won 364 electoral votes ... and counting. So how should he govern? Some
argue America is still a center-right country and Obama needs to govern in the
middle. Others say this is a transformational moment and that it's time for
activist liberal government. Who's right? We'll debate that later with
Democratic Strategist Rich Masters and Republican Strategist Ron Christie.
Then, nothing the Democrats have said about Sarah Palin during the campaign can
compare with what Republicans inside the McCain camp are saying now:
"Shop-a-holic. Geographically illiterate. Unwilling to read briefing material."
We'll look at what Palin did or didn't do for the Republican Ticket and why the
tables have suddenly turned. Political Analyst Eugene Robinson and Newsweek's
Howard Fineman will weigh in.
Then in the Hardball Sideshow, the most pressing issue facing the new
president-elect will be ... what kind of dog he will get for his two daughters?
Tune in to find out!
Plus in the Politics Fix, who's in and who's out in the new White House? We
know Rahm Emanuel is the new Chief of Staff and there are reports that David
Axelrod is likely to follow. Who will be in the new president's cabinet? MSNBC
Political Analysts Michelle Bernard and Roger Simon will discuss.
And for tonight's big number - how many boys in the baby ward of Sierra Leone's
main hospital were named after the President-elect on Wednesday?
