THe expert is in Poland, but I think you have the record size and key size
confused. Try D ^GDE and then when the prompt for GDE comes up, type in
show. You should get something like this:
*** REGIONS ***
Dynamic Def Rec Key Null
Region Segment Coll Size Size Subs Journaling
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEFAULT DEFAULT 0 4000 255 N N
*** SEGMENTS ***
Segment File (def ext: .dat)Acc Typ Block Alloc Exten Options

DEFAULT $vista_home/g/mumps.dat
BG DYN 4096 60000 6000 GLOB=4096
LOCK= 40
RES = 0
*** MAP ***

From Up to Region Segment (def ext: .dat)

$vista_home/g/mumps.dat
LOCAL LOCKS DEFAULT DEFAULT
$vista_home/g/mumps.dat

think 2000 is more typical.
If that seems to be the problem, then I can tell you about how to set it.
