I don't think I'm speaking out of turn by saying the following:

1. You'll have to do less "tweaking" of the cache.dat which will be released
as the VistA-Office EHR than has to be done with the cache.dat VA VistA FOIA
release. E.g. Device file entries will likely be defined for clinic offices
to have $I values for Cache on NT. You'll still need to run ZTMGRSET. But
many of the idiosyncratic values (or missing values) in the VistA FOIA will
be setup with more reasonable installation defaults.

2. The code will be released at the end of July. I expect there will be no
"previews".

3. I'm told that the list of requirements and requested requirements will be
posted in the next few weeks on the CMS web site for VistA-Office EHR. It
will indicate which things will be in the first release and which things are
prioritized for a possible future release.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Vista-Office - 'theoretically' works with GT.M?

http://www.ama-assn.org/amednews/2005/04/11/bisa0411.htm

Is his last statement valid?

Will or can we get an early peak at the codebase for VistA-Office? Any
resources for what is going in and what is being taken out?

>The VA is modifying its VistA software for physician offices, and that
>version is expected to become available in July, said Mike Ginsburg,
project
>manager for the VistA-Office EHR at the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care,
>which is managing the conversion of VistA from an inpatient to outpatient
>setting as part of a contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
>Services.
......
>VistA-Office EHR would be made available free over the Internet, but
doctors
>won't be able to run the application unless they license MUMPS, a database
>programming language from third-party vendors, Ginsburg said. That cost
will
>vary depending on who is selling the license, the size of the
implementation
>and number of users. Ginsburg estimated the cost to small and medium-sized
>practices would run in the four figures.

>Open-source versions of MUMPS are available, and "theoretically" will work
>with VistA, Ginsburg said.
