Watching this thread with some trepidation. It could also have serious consequence for my situation. Certainly, pushing images across a narrow T1 channel can be frustrating.
I don't have the experience with linux to comment, nor do I have a full transfer to VistA (45,000 patient) version going yet. However my experience with CPRS and "remote desktop" sitting across town, 20 miles from my clinic (or a Salt Lake City, Utah connection) are about as good as sitting in the same room as my server. There was a time I ran POTS and 56k modem with excellent performance. Trying to maintain two databases, without something highly sophisticated like journaling/mirroring, approaches a non- starter for me.
