I am using a script, called by crontab, to back up my
database on a regular basis.

I use this command:
mupip backup bytestream "*" tmp/vista_backup

I then use rsync to upload it to our windows server,
where it is include in its backup.

So far, the file that is created with this method are
about 9 mb.

This seems to be much smaller than the size of my
mumps.dat file (which is 86,186,544 bytes).

Questions:
1) Why the size discrepancy?
2) How can I test if my backup is working properly?

Kevin
