Since the state file has a lookup on state abreviations, will a pointer field
to the state file not lookup the state given the abbreviation? If the field
pointing to the state file is a pointer datatype ( which it will be if it
points to a file) and the lookup value is contained in a lookup xref, then
lookup may be available using values in the xref.

I wouldn't redcommend modifying the DD unless you are sure you *always*
want Fileman to behave this way. If you want to an option to perform
lookup by abbreviation only, I'd make tthe necessary change in code
rather than in the DD.
