Unfortunately, you're probably right. I still like the idea of using Java for desktop applications (and yes, I know it isn't open source). I realize web based applications are very popular nowadays (and not without reason) but I have yet to really be "sold" on web based applications.
That being said, I've been struggling somewhat of late to come up with a better way to write Swing applications. I am definitely NOT happy with the code I've written because it clearly not very successful in keeping presentation logic separate from application logic.
