I should have been clearer. Some NDF patches include the med instructions from First Databank. Those are (currently) excluded from the ftp site where the patches are posted. However! The patches are applied to the Cache and GT.M ready databases and the copyrighted material is purged before zipping the databases. So the NDF FOIAable tables continue to be available. I'm hoping VA can come up with a better way to post public domain information in a timelier manner (and in smaller chunks, e.g. HL7 messages) in the near future.

So one can no longer get a copy of the NDF in the FOIA. Considering that it is a standard now, I would think the VA maintains it in a pristine form so that it could be made available as a patch without much work. Is that not true? Also, it is available in an Access database here, http://www.vapbm.org/PBM/natform.htm so would it be difficult to format it for importation into the National Drug File within VistA?
