I'm watching The Science Channel right now, and the cosmologist Saul Perlmutter (I think I got that right) just said: "I'm a theorist, and not even my mother knows what a theorist is." In my day to day job with the VA, I'm just a programmer, not a computer scientist. But I think that I have been successful in addressing problems because of knowledge of (and ability to apply) theoretical computer science. Sometimes, I feel frustrated because it seems as if no one is really interested in the same kinds of issues that concern me and, well, this just hasn't been a good day (or few days).

I want to apologize for anything rude, impatient, or unkind that I may have said. I think the community we have here is something very valuable, and I don't know that we really appreciate how much we can accomplish by putting our collective minds to it.
