Much thanks goes to you Bhaskar for all of your support in maintaining these releases.

Would it be possible to create .deb packages of GT.M/OpenVistA? It would be so nice to automate and manage updates and installations on a running Debian server with dpkg or apt-get. Perhaps something such as this could eventually become part of the stable Debian releases.

Certainly such a effort might be tough. I am not sure where GT.M/VistA would fit into their package and development process, but it sure would be convenient and make the whole available to large numbers of users through the huge number of Debian mirrors around the globe. Then no matter how you install the base system it would be easy to get OpenVistA up and running.

Maybe something like the Debian debconf configuration management system, i.e. the interface for configuration of debian packages, could be implemented and leave one with a basic server configuration. Or another idea would be to make the whole OpenVistA/GT.M install subject to their "tasksel" system.

It is really great to have live CD releases, but I suspect that more and more it won't be a question of whether or not one wants to use GT.M/OpenVistA, but what is the easiest way to install it as part of a standard Debian server installation. And after that how to maintain it in production, i.e. with automation for upgrades and updates.

I am making all of this sound simple but it would seem that it might be possible as Debian now includes some packages that are quite large and complex.

Please provide some guidance about future releases of OpenVistA VivA.
...
So, what would the members of the VistA community like? I can continue
the current strategy of keeping OpenVistA VivA to a live CD and staying
with Knoppix for OpenVistA VivA FOIA Gold live DVD releases. I can use
a single base system, and I can stay small or go with the kitchen
sink.
Also, how about the forthcoming (once CMS releases the software)
OpenVistA VivA Office EHR?

Please let me know what you want, so that I can serve you better (yes, I
know that ultimately I will do what I think is best, but I really will
consider all inputs). Thank you very much.
