Actually, I have in mind a bad reference or link in the ^XUTL global,
something that would put $QUERY into a loop.

It is possible, as you point out, that there could be a coding error.
Someone might be trying repeatedly to get a lock in a tight loop (with
no counter). I can't imagine that being done intentionally, but you
never know what kind of unintended consequences a simple code change
might have.

(And you wonder why I keep preaching loose  coupling?)
