I wonder if it has much to do with all the heat that ends up in that region? Sure hope it doesn't show up in my system!
I believe that heat kills caps. I've seen blown caps on several machines that were extremely dirty. In each case, the caps were close to the video card (several times the video fan was dead) or the CPU.
