Well I got my drop replaced today finally and all I can say is "I told you so!" to them.

The last tech that visited felt that the pole connection looked odd and scheduled a drop replacement. So CC sent out "advanced techs" who tested the line in the same fashion as before and found it A-OK. They rang my bell and were basically were saying all was well. Of course I start to rant about how the line levels fluctuated in the past two weeks when the temps when up and that it could be something that they couldn't test for, etc...

After about 10min of talking to them, they climbed the pole and found several problems & signal reading fluctuations. There were several drops on the same something (clamp?) and splice or something, water damage every few inches, etc...Needless to say they changed the drop & my modem reading went to +6 w/ 32db SNR or a +8 dbmv gain!

Functional or not was never the issue, it was the random outages and the -2 dbmv loss over 2 years that got me going. Now I feel vindicated and also found out why my sb-3100 modem and the newer sb4100 are being dropped from support: They can't get them to take the new firmware/config to go to 4Mb & don't know why! So they are simply dropping support for them even though they are DOCSIS 1.1 & should work.

BS that one of the largest cable co's in the US can't get Motorola to help fix them problem and the only Motorola modem that does work is the newer DOCSIS 2.0 SB-5100????

1 step forward, 2 back as now I am effectively paying for 4Mb and can only get 3. Me thinks time to find an uncapping reference so I can at least force mine to 4Mb since they can't seem to make it work.
