Are the NIC slots positioned in the same relative location on both
notebooks? Are the screens the same size? It would seem to be that the
NICs antenna, when used on the newer one, must somehow be less effective
in reception...could be due to positioning near the housing of the
notebook, or due to a different screen, notebook generated interference,
etc. When you put them in the same position, did you try reorienting the
newer NB so that the antenna points toward your wireless router? Of
course, it could be some business going on inside the newer NB in terms
of how it uses the received signal coming out of the NICs...that
wouldn't be a matter of reception, but one of electronics...might have
to try a NIC recommended for the newer NB. Just some thoughts...

I have two notebooks and two wireless NICs (one Surecom, and one
Linksys.) On the older notebook, both NICs get better reception than
on the newer one. Both are using XP Pro and the same drivers. Both
are in precisely the same position. The newer will get reception, but
I have to move about 20 feet closer to the router to get it. Anyone
ever see this before and if so, know of a solution?
