USB2, and things like memory cards, at any speed, require drivers in Win98.
A lot of older inexpensive cameras required drivers in any OS. I have a 4
year old JamKam ( company doesn't exist anymore), that cost me 10 bucks
after sales and rebates. In any Windows OS the drivers need to be installed
in order to download the pictures, and they download through the
software...not a drive. There are 2K XP drivers for this camera, but all
the drivers are so poorly written that they only work easily in 98 where
you installed everything in default folders. I keep this camera in my car
for emergencies, and use a 98 VM to get the pictures.

BIL is having some problem with usb on his W98SE machine. One camera will
work, another camera does not-seems the camera will not list as a
"removable disk" in the I/O list of "my computer" like the other one. The
two cameras are pretty early, lo-tech digitals. The camera names escape me ATM.
Is there some usb update that came out for W98SE? I recall usb updates
for 95OSR2, but can't remember about 98SE. I've been on W2K so long I've
forgotten most of what I used to know about W98SE. I'll loan him one of my
memory card readers to try.
Thanks.
