I go with this suggestion also, especially if you
have mapped network drives. This has caused me a few head scratches in the past.
Also you could load a CD Linux distro to check if h/ware is OK.

conflict. I always move the rom drives to f and g to leave e and d open for
thumb drives and cameras

101 question, but here goes.
Windows XP Pro SP1 can't see my CD
drives in Explorer, My Computer, or any Windows programs. But they show up
in Device Manager as normal. I have deleted them & restarted as well as
reinstalled the IDE controller. It wasn't showing up in Device Manager until
I reinstalled it. After multiple restarts no joy!!
